Sunday Fitness Update by Craig Kerbrat

It's a new week, so that means it's time for my weekly fitness update! There's not a lot to say again, so let's get right to it.

August 2-8

  • Workouts: 0
  • Run Training: 0
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 25
  • Top Steps: 14804
  • Starting Weight: 77.8 kg
  • Ending Weight: 77.1 kg
  • Change: -0.7 kg
  • Total Change: -1.3 kg

I'm going to start with the challenge I set for myself last week. I decided I was going to do 10 push-ups every day, and then look at increasing the goal each week. I sort of forgot about the challenge barely into the week... I did fine on Sunday and Monday, but totally forgot on Tuesday, so I did double on Wednesday to make up for it. But then I completely forgot for the rest of the week. So this week I'm going to try again with the 10. I'm setting myself a reminder in my phone to hopefully help make it happen.

I have kept up both my steps streak, and my streak of no other exercise outside of that. I'm off work this week, I took a week of vacation time so I can relax and recharge. I'm thinking this might finally be the week I get back into the groove of things. If I want to go to the gym or go for a run, I can do it anytime. I don't have to get up ridiculously early, so it seems like a good week to get the feel for things again.

And that's my weekly update! Here's hoping I've got something more exciting to say next week!

Sunday Fitness Update by Craig Kerbrat

Yaaaaay it's fitness update time. I'm in bed, still half asleep, but let's do this! (Before I drift back into dreamland.)

July 19-25

  • Workouts: 0
  • Run Training: 1
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 11
  • Top Steps: 13228
  • Starting Weight: 77.5 kg
  • Ending Weight: 78.7 kg
  • Change: +1.2 kg
  • Total Change: +0.3 kg

So, I've got my steps streak going again. After breaking it on Tuesday of the week before last, I'm up to 11 days in a row. I got the 10-day streak notification in the UP app on Friday and I was pretty excited about it. We'll see how long I can keep it going this time.

I still haven't been back to the gym, but I did go for a little bit of a run yesterday. I didn't really intend to, I was going for a walk to get my steps for the day, and I decided I wanted to try out my new Nike running shoes that I bought in San Diego, and the next thing I knew I was running. I will probably need to start up the Zombies, Run! 5k Training app again, but it was nice to get in a little bit of running again.

Other than that, I have nothing to report. It's rainy this weekend so perhaps I'll feel more into going to the gym again, but it's also supposed to get really hot again this week, so that might just make me want to sleep in all week instead. I guess we'll just have to see how the week goes when I'm back here next week.

Have a great Sunday!

Sunday Fitness Update: Tuesday Edition by Craig Kerbrat

Oops! This is a couple days late due to being too busy at Comic-Con to think about blogging. I was also too busy to do any kind of running or working out, but check it out anyway.

July 5-11

  • Workouts: 0
  • Run Training: 0
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 84
  • Top Steps: 27664
  • Starting Weight: 78.2 kg
  • Ending Weight: 78.2 kg
  • Change: 0 kg
  • Total Change: -0.2 kg

So I didn't run, and I didn't work out, but I did keep up my steps, and more than double my step goal on three separate days. My week total was 127416 steps, almost double the weekly goal of 70000 steps. Not bad.

I didn't have a scale to weigh myself on Sunday so I left the same measurements from last week, but I did weigh myself this morning and I may have lost a tiny bit of weight. Less than a kg, so I mean a tiny bit, but it's somerhing.

i really need to get back into the workout and running thing. This week hasn't started off well with me spending the day sick in bed today, but I'll try to turn it around. It's also finally cooled off a little bit so that's motivation to get moving.

Otherwise, that's about all I've got to say right now. I'll gather my thoughts and my notes and post my SDCC blog later in the week, so look forward to that!

Sunday Fitness Update by Craig Kerbrat

Welcome to my Sunday Fitness Update post where I talk about my successes and setbacks from the prior week. Here we go.

June 21-27

  • Workouts: 1
  • Run Training: 0
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 70
  • Top Steps: 14291
  • Starting Weight: 78.8 kg
  • Ending Weight: 78.4 kg
  • Change: -0.4 kg
  • Total Change: 0 kg

So, I had all these plans to turn things around this week, and I even got a good start with the gym on Monday, but after that my willpower and momentum just kind of fizzled... I missed my second workout and didn't go running at all. I keep telling myself that I'll go to bed earlier and make things easier on myself, but with these long hot summer days it's just not that easy.

I did push myself to go for a walk last night to keep my steps streak going. I was at just under 7000 steps at 10pm last night, and I almost just went to bed. But I really wanted to keep this streak alive, so I went for a quick walk around the neighbourhood, got my steps, and now that's 10 weeks in a row with 10000 steps every day.

I want to say this week is going to go better than the last few, but with the forecast for the next week I really don't know if I'm going to want to be doing anything overly active. I'll try, 'cause the gym is usually cool, but it's more a matter of making myself get out of bed.

Anyway, it's the last week before we take off to Comic-Con, so I will definitely try to make it count. I know that Comic-Con week will be easy for steps, but I'm probably not going to get in any running or working out. I'll be a little busy, I'm sure. I'm going to try to make this week a good one, and I'll see you next Sunday with my report.

Fitness... What? by Craig Kerbrat

It's Sunday again, so it's time to check in. And I'm not excited about it this week. So let's just get it over with...

June 14-20

  • Workouts: 0
  • Run Training: 0
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 63
  • Top Steps: 14092
  • Starting Weight: 78.2 kg
  • Ending Weight: 78.8 kg
  • Change: +0.6 kg
  • Total Change: +0.4 kg

I've been really struggling with my fitness goals lately. There are a lot of excuses I can throw at you: It's too warm to run or work out; I've been too tired to get up early in the morning; Work meetings have been getting in the way in the morning.  But that's all they are: excuses. If I was really motivated, I'd go to bed early to get enough sleep, get up early to avoid the heat, and just do it.

The one bright side is that I am always moving so I've kept up my steps streak. I do have that to feel good about. I really need to set myself a proper bedtime so I can start getting serious about this fitness thing again. It's not like I have lofty goals of running marathons or entering body builder competitions. I just want to stay healthy... and look good with my shirt off.

Anyway, that's all I've got for today. There's a busy Sunday ahead, I'm going to spend the day with some fun people at Car Free Day on Main Street followed by margaritas and guacamole, so it's time to get up and get moving. Have an awesome Sunday, and a great week!

Fitness Wobble by Craig Kerbrat

Hello! Welcome to Sunday! And it's the Sunday of a long weekend so we're only halfway! I'm taking this weekend to relax and recharge, but still trying to keep up with my fitness goals. Anyway, here's my update for last week!

May 10-16

  • Workouts: 1
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 28
  • Top Steps: 13911
  • Starting Weight: 78.6 kg
  • Ending Weight: 78.4 kg
  • Change: -0.2 kg
  • Total Change: 0.0 kg

Soooo... I didn't get in my second workout of the week. I wasn't feeling great most of the week, so I ended up just sleeping in when I could and wrote off the second workout. I will make sure to get both in this week. I just needed a little break.

My steps have kept up, though. I'm at a 28-day streak for getting my 10000 steps in, and I'm hoping to keep that up. I didn't have as many over-and-above days this past week, but I made sure I hit my goal every day. I had to make sure I got one thing right this week.

I'm also back down to my original weight when I started all of this. Not that I was ever above by much. It's always been within about a kilogram of where I started. The weather has gotten way better lately, which means I'm more likely to want to go out for a walk/hike/run, so here's hoping more cardio helps me make my weight goals happen.

Anyway, that's all I've got to say. It's supposed to be a beautiful day, so I hope everyone has an awesome Sunday and a great long weekend!

Not a bad view today!

Sunday Update by Craig Kerbrat

Well, this is the second time I'm doing this post, 'cause my draft randomly vanished, so hopefully I don't forget anything. It's Sunday again, so that means work tomorrow, but it also means I got to enjoy brunch this morning, Game of Thrones and the season finale of Once Upon a Time and the series finale of Revenge are all coming up this evening, and it also means that it's time for my weekly fitness update! Here goes.

May 3-9

  • Workouts: 2
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Steps Streak: 21
  • Top Steps: 13599
  • Starting Weight: 79.0 kg
  • Ending Weight: 78.6 kg
  • Change: -0.4 kg
  • Total Change: +0.2 kg

First thing I wanted to talk about is my daily steps count. I've managed to keep my streak going for 21 days now, which is pretty great. The other cool thing about this is that this past week I actually had four days with steps over 13000. It's kind of awesome for me. I'm thinking about raising my daily step goal, but I still tend to struggle on weekends getting the 10000, so I'm going to leave things how they are for now.

On the workout front, I've managed to keep things going at the same pace. I added some squats and burpees in to my second workout this week again, and I still really don't like the burpees. They're kind of exhausting, but that's probably a good sign.  I didn't do as many this time, 'cause I added them on to the end of my workout and I ran out of time, so I didn't feel the burn quite so bad in the days afterwards. So I'm going to double down on that and make sure I get the best out of my workouts.

Otherwise, there's not much else to report. I'm still fluctuating around the same weight. I know I need to get in more cardio to help with that, and probably the burpees will help with that too. If only because they make me want to puke. But I'll need to start doing something else soon.

I went for a walk in Burnaby Lake Park yesterday, which is always a beautiful place to get in my daily steps. But I also saw a couple of geese with their goslings hanging out, so I'm gonna leave you with a picture of the cuteness. Have a great week!

This was the best picture I got, mainly because I didn't want to get too close and scare them away/make mommy mad.

Back On Track by Craig Kerbrat

I really feel like I should make these weekly fitness blog posts more interesting, but since I still don't really feel like I know what I'm doing, they'll probably just keep this format for now. In any case, it's supposed to be about me keeping accountable, so posting at all is really more the point.

February 15-21

  • Workouts: 2
  • 10000 Steps: 7
  • Top Steps: 14601
  • Starting Weight: 78.1 kg
  • Ending Weight: 79.0 kg
  •  Change: +0.9 kg
  • Total Change: +0.6 kg

This week was a nice improvement as far as my workouts and step counts went. I got in my two workouts, and I hit my step goal every day. Not only that, I also beat my step goal by a lot on four of the seven days. I was over 14000 steps three days, and over 13000 one other day. Plus, I made my first effort towards getting back to running. I took a walk along my old running route yesterday, and realized I definitely miss my run through the park.

I may not start running right away. Mainly because I'm a scaredy-cat. My only real time to go for a run is early in the morning, and my route is through a dark wooded park, and I just don't really feel like that's a safe plan. But the days are getting longer, so I should be able to get back to it soon. In the meantime, I'll just keep up with my gym workouts, and try to make sure I balance the cardio and weights.

Speaking of weight, I'm not really sure why my weight jumped this week. I know I didn't eat particularly great this week, but I didn't think it was any worse than before. I'll have to keep an eye on that this week. Maybe try to focus on eating more veggies this week.

Otherwise, I'm going to stick to the plan. Two workouts. Maybe walk my route again on a weekend afternoon. I'm going to try to change up my workout plans. I've been focusing mostly on upper body and abs, and then using the stationary bike for cardio. But I should probably give some more thought to my legs. Maybe start adding squats and lunges to the mix. I'll look online for some workout ideas.

Anyway, that's all I've got for this week. I feel pretty good about last week, and pretty confident I can make it continue into this week!
