Andrea Challenge: BSG Edition - Season Three by Craig Kerbrat

It's time for the third update in the challenge I took up to watch Battlestar Galactica. Last night I watched the season three finale, and it was kind of epic. I'm looking forward to starting the next season, but first, I've gotta get this update done.

So much happened in this season. The previous season ended with things in a pretty bad place, and it definitely got worse before it got better. The Cylon occupation of New Caprica really didn't go well for the humans or the Cylons, and it was over pretty quickly, but it left a lot of scars that were still healing right through to the finale of season three.

I had a hard time with Apollo and Starbuck this season. Both seemed to be on very self-destructive paths, and I kind of hated them both. I did enjoy Athena and Helo's storylines, and them getting Hera back. Colonel Tigh was mostly annoying, but I feel like that's what he's supposed to be. The Chief and Cally are always good. And the flirting between Adama and President Roslin was a lot of fun, but nothing ever seems to happen!

The focus on the Cylons, and Baltar as their captive/ally was interesting. And the development of Caprica Six and her connections to Athena and Roslin at the end was interesting. D'Anna was mostly just odd, but I liked her exploration into the spirit world of the Cylons. But the trial of Baltar mostly just made me angry. Everyone really threw him under the bus, and it was kind of frustrating to watch. He's not a good guy, but he was definitely being punished for things he hadn't done. But he got off in the end, so that's good I guess.

Anyway, the season was up and down for me. Lots happened. But the finale. Oh man, the finale!  Some major stuff happened in the last bit. Four of the final five Cylons were revealed, and I did NOT see that coming. And then Kara Thrace shows up alive and well claiming to have been to Earth after her apparent demise a few episodes earlier. Man! This show knows how to do season finales! I'm just glad I don't have to wait months for the season premiere. I can just continue on where I left off.

And that's exactly what I'm going to do! Let's see how long it takes to power through the final season!

Andrea Challenge: BSG Edition - Season One by Craig Kerbrat

So, this post is actually from a few weeks ago. January 19th, to be specific. I wrote it, and wasn't happy with it, so I abandoned it. But after a conversation with my boss, I've decided to post it. Anyway...

Last night I finished watching season 1 of Battlestar Galactica, so I figured now is a good time to make my first update on the challenge that my good friend Andrea set for me at the beginning of January.

Season 1 is only 13 episodes, and I had started the season a while ago, so I really only had half the season to watch, so it might be a while before the next update. Unless something really exciting happens and I have to blog about it... which could happen.

I'm not gonna lie, with the way people go on about this show, I expected more from this season. I found it a little bit underwhelming. It seemed like everything happened in the two-part season finale, so rather than wrapping anything up, it just put cliffhangers on all of the different story lines.

But I guess a lot of first seasons are a little bit less exciting than the rest of the show, so I'm not going to pass judgement yet. And that's not to say that I don't like the show. I do. I'm hooked. And it's not like I need to wait several months for the next season. It's right there on CraveTV with the rest of it, so I can continue where I left off when I get home tonight.

Basically I think I was just hoping to get some answers, and instead there were just more questions. But I consider Lost one of my favourite shows of all time, so I should really be used to getting no answers...

I will also just add that what keeps me watching is the characters. Even though I feel like I haven't really gotten to know them yet, I find them all really interesting. I think my favourites are actually the Cylons, which might be a bit odd. The different versions of Sharon and Number Six are interesting. I've got my eye on Kara, 'cause everyone seems to love Starbuck. And I'm watching Helo, but mostly just 'cause he's the resident hottie on the show. Yup, I'm shallow.

Anyway, that's my impression of the first season. I'm sure it will have to get better, otherwise I really don't get why everyone loves it so much. And like I said, I do like it, I'm just waiting for it to get into the "good stuff".

Goals for a Great Year by Craig Kerbrat

Alright. It's 2015. And I've had a few days to think about it, so I'm going to set my goals for the year. Officially. Here goes!

1. Keep up with this blog. Whether it's something nerdy, something personal, something silly, or something serious, I pledge to post at least one blog post every week. I have a lot of ideas that should make this easy. I just have to stick to the plan.

2. Take more pictures. Every year, the various social networks I'm part of show off everyone's "year in review" and I'm always a little disappointed in mine because I don't take a lot of pictures, and therefore don't have many to share. I'm not sure how I'm going to make this work, but I'm going to try to document thing better in my blog, so I might as well commit to taking pictures to go along with it.

3. Get back to the gym. This one is going to be tough. I've got a big mental block with this one. I always come up with excuses not to work out. Several of my friends have been talking about their plans to keep accountable via blogs and other online mediums, and I am going to take a page out of their books and give that a shot. I'm not exactly sure on the details yet, but regular checkins with a scheduled blog post are my rough plan so far. Perhaps even some before and after (progress) photos to help with the previous goal of taking more pictures.

I will have a future post within the next week going over my exact goals for this, and how I'll measure my progress, because it's one thing to say that I want to be more active, and leave it up for interpretation, but it's another to set specific goals and take measurements along the way. And the latter is what I'm going for.

Those are my major goals for the year. I have a few others, but they're pretty minor compared to the ones above. But they will also, hopefully, help with my first goal of blogging more. I have a whole bunch of TV shows, movies, books, and video games I want to catch up on. Scheduling time to do all of these things, and making regular updates about it here, should help with that. This goal might seem a bit contradictory to my fitness goal, but I think that with proper time management, I can find a way to do both.

Anyway, these entertainment updates will sometimes come in the form of challenges. They might be challenges I set for myself, or challenges set for me by others. And the first challenge has already been set for me by my good friend Andrea, The Everyday Optimist. I'm calling it the Andrea Challenge: BSG Edition. That's right, I've been challenged to FINALLY watch all of Battlestar Galactica. I started watching it a while ago, and for some reason just kind of... stopped. But I'm taking Andrea's challenge, and will keep record of my progress here.

So that's my first post for 2015. As I said, expect another update within the next week for my fitness goals, and I'll try to come up with a schedule going forward. I'm excited for 2015, and I'm looking forward to everything that it will bring. Including, hopefully, some new successes here in the blog department.
